Wolfgang Uhlich

About

Wolfgang Uhlich is a German guitarist and vocalist from Bremerhaven, founder and frontman of the tribute band dIRE sTRATS, which has been bringing the Dire Straits repertoire to live stages since 2004. He picked up the guitar at 14 - first drawn to Ritchie Blackmore, then permanently hooked by Mark Knopfler after hearing "Sultans of Swing". Many knowledgeable fans consider him the most convincing imitator of Knopfler's guitar style; the band has passed the 1,000-concert mark and won the nationwide German tribute band contest in Koblenz in 2011.
