Wolfgang Uhlich is a German guitarist and vocalist who founded the Dire Straits tribute band dIRE sTRATS in 2004. He picked up the guitar at 14, first drawn to Ritchie Blackmore and then captivated by Mark Knopfler's fingerpicking style. He fronts the band as both singer and lead guitarist - mirroring Knopfler's own approach - and is widely regarded by fans across Europe as the most convincing interpreter of Knopfler's guitar style today. The band won the nationwide Tribute Contest 2011 in Koblenz against 100 competing acts.
