VLÁČEK: Šanov Summer Night
A romantic train journey from Znojmo to Šanov with live music and a folk ensemble concert in a natural amphitheatre setting.
The Vysokoškolský soubor lidových písní a tanců Poľana (VSĽPT Poľana) was founded in 1949 by Slovak students at Brno universities and is one of the oldest Slovak folk ensembles in the Czech Republic. Its 80-plus members - mostly students and graduates, over 75% of Slovak nationality - focus exclusively on Slovak folk dance, song and music from across Slovakia's regions. The ensemble has performed at international festivals across Europe and won the overall laureate prize at the Akademická Nitra festival in 2014. Since 2007 it has organised the Slovenská tancovačka dance workshop series in Brno, a pioneering event of its kind in Moravia and Bohemia.
The ensemble organized a concert for the 15th anniversary of the women's choir combined with the christening of the new CD Poľana "Losses and Finds" in Brno.
In Brno, the jubilee edition of the Slovak Dance Evening took place marking 15 years of existence of this workshop cycle.
Poľana as the only foreign ensemble participated in the folklore television competition "The Land Sings" on Slovak public television RTVS.
