About

Vít Křišťan (b. 1986) is a Czech pianist and composer who studied at the Jazz Academy in Katowice and composition/arranging in Odense, Denmark. He teaches at HAMU, JAMU and the Jaroslav Ježek Conservatory in Prague. A member of the composers' collective The Prague Six, he writes for the Concept Art Orchestra big band, plays in the Robert Balzar Trio and collaborates with Dan Bárta - including in the CAVESOUNDS project, which exploits the acoustics of the Výpustek cave.

    Křišťan performed at the Prague Čítárna Unijazz as part of the song cycle Svou chvíli with Markéta Foukalová and Martin Brunner.

    The KlasikaPlus.cz portal published an extensive interview with Křišťan about the relationship between jazz and classical music and his pedagogical work.

    Křišťan performed a solo recital at the Anežský Monastery in Prague as part of the Hybatelé rezonance cycle, the program continued his Suite Mandala.

    On the album Jedním dechem by Dana Bárty and Robert Balzar Tria (Bivak Records, 2022), Křišťan contributed his composition Mysteriózní.

  • 2019

    With Concept Art Orchestra, he premiered his Concerto for Piano and Jazz Orchestra.
