About

Václav Šusta (1892-1953) was a Czech geologist and mining engineer who spent most of his career in the Ostrava-Karviná coalfield. He assembled over 7,000 geological specimens from local mines and donated them to the city of Ostrava - the museum's palaeontological collection now bears his name. He personally described 11 new species of fossil Carboniferous flora and founded the mineralogical-geological section of the Ostrava Natural Science Society.
