Tippi Hedren is an American actress best known for playing Melanie Daniels in Alfred Hitchcock's The Birds (1963). Hitchcock cast her straight from modelling, and the film became one of cinema's most iconic thrillers. Away from acting, she has long championed big-cat welfare and founded the Shambala Preserve in 1972.
