Sonata Arctica are a Finnish power metal band from Kemi, formed in 1996 under the name Tricky Beans before settling on their current name. Known for keyboard-driven melodies, high-speed riffs and the distinctive tenor of frontman Tony Kakko, they have released eleven studio albums and built a loyal global following over three decades. Their 1999 debut Ecliptica and 2004's Reckoning Night remain genre touchstones, while the 2024 album Clear Cold Beyond marked a return to their heavier roots after two acoustic releases.
The band continues its 30th anniversary tour, which includes over 60 concerts in 26 countries worldwide.
In January 2026, the band's 30th anniversary Finnish tour started; in November 2026, a major show in Stockholm with Beast in Black and Frozen Crown is planned.
The band announced a fall Latin American 30th anniversary tour, which starts in September 2026 in Mexico and continues through Central and South America.
In September 2025, the band performed a North American tour together with Symphony X.
In March 2024, Sonata Arctica released their eleventh studio album Clear Cold Beyond on Atomic Fire Records.
