Secret Chiefs 3 is a California-based musical project led by guitarist and composer Trey Spruance, formerly of Mr. Bungle and briefly Faith No More. Formed in the mid-1990s in San Francisco, the group operates less like a fixed band and more like a loose collective of 'satellite bands,' each reflecting a different musical and philosophical strand - from Sufism to Kabbalah to Hermeticism and alchemy. Their sound fuses Middle Eastern motifs, surf rock, death metal and film music into songs that resist easy genre labels.
The band launched a crowdfunding campaign ACT III and announced that it has twelve new full-length albums in development, which it plans to gradually release over the next six years.
In autumn 2026, the band embarks on a month-long North American tour as the main support for the French band Igorrr alongside the Japanese Violent Magic Orchestra.
In autumn 2025, the band performed several concerts in Australia and New Zealand as support for the metal band Blood Incantation.
The band released the album Malkhut, continuing a long series of releases under the Secret Chiefs 3 label.
