Sachal Vasandani is a Chicago-born American jazz vocalist and songwriter of Indian heritage. He studied jazz, classical music, and economics at the University of Michigan, where DownBeat magazine named him Collegiate Jazz Vocalist of the Year in 1999. Over a career spanning more than two decades he has worked with Wynton Marsalis, Bobby McFerrin, and other leading musicians, and his 2011 album Hi-Fly reached #1 on the iTunes Jazz charts. His 2025 album Best Life Now, produced by drummer Nate Smith, blends jazz, soul, and R&B, and was submitted for Grammy consideration in the Best Jazz Vocal Performance category.
Vasandani released the EP Best Life Now - Acoustic Sessions (October 3, 2025), an acoustic reworking of singles from the album Best Life Now with saxophonist Dayna Stephens and guitarist Charles Altura.
The album Best Life Now was submitted for a Grammy Award in the Best Jazz Vocal Performance (Male) category, and the publisher released a promotional sizzle reel for academy voting.
Vasandani performed on April 30, 2025 in Abu Dhabi at the All-Star Global Concert for World Jazz Day alongside Herbie Hancock, Dee Dee Bridgewater, and Dianne Reeves.
On February 14, 2025, the album Best Life Now was released on the Patron Saint label; it was produced by drummer Nate Smith, and a review in Downbeat called it a successful blend of pop songwriting, R&B grooves, and jazz textures.
In July 2024, the first single Tyrannosaur from the upcoming album Best Life Now was released.
Marta Kloučková and David Dorůžka premiere their debut album in an intimate jazz duo setting, with Sachal Vasandani also performing as part of JazzFest Brno.
