Ondřej Valenta (born 1990) is a Czech organist who has served as organist of St. Vitus Cathedral in Prague since 2024, also holding the position of deputy choirmaster. He trained at the Prague Conservatory under Jan Hora and at the Academy of Performing Arts (AMU) with Pavel Černý, with further studies at the Mozarteum in Salzburg and the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Munich. Alongside his solo career he teaches at the Prague Conservatory, co-founded the Varhanní Vyšehrad festival, and performs chamber music with the NiTrio ensemble. He has appeared with the Czech National Symphony Orchestra, PKF - Prague Philharmonia and other ensembles, and has given concerts across Western and Northern Europe.
Valenta played on all three instruments of the cathedral at the inaugural St. Vitus Organ Octave (June 15-22, 2026), which celebrated the installation of the new Grenzing organs.
St. Vitus Cathedral received new organs in June 2026 from the workshop of Spanish organ builder Gerhard Grenzing, for the acquisition of which thousands of donors contributed over 154 million crowns.
Valenta will perform at the 15th St. Vitus Organ Evenings festival (June-September 2026) as one of the main performers, for the first time on the new instrument.
In an interview for Seznam Zprávy, Valenta described the preparation of the repertoire for the new organs and the interest of foreign colleagues in performing at the cathedral.
Valenta took the position of organist and deputy director of the choir of St. Vitus Cathedral after winning the competition announced by the Metropolitan Chapter in October 2023.
