Medlov First Republic Ball
The fourth edition of the Medlov First Republic Ball features the swing orchestra Melody Gentlemen and Horácká Muzika, celebrating the golden age of the 1920s-30s with dancing and live music.
Melody Gentlemen are a swing orchestra from Lednice in South Moravia, founded in 2009. Their repertoire draws on Czechoslovak dance hits and film melodies of the 1930s and 40s, performed with period instruments and the line-up of a small interwar dance band. The group's name pays homage to R. A. Dvorský's Melody Boys. Between 2015 and 2025 they collaborated with the Mahen Theatre of the National Theatre Brno on a stage production of Saturnin, where the musicians also took on minor acting roles.
The orchestra is preparing a special program Swing Cocktail: 120 Years of Jaroslav Ježek on September 23, 2026, dedicated to the anniversary of the composer's birth.
After ten years, the collaboration of Melody Gentlemen with the Mahen Drama Theater of the National Theater Brno ended with the production of Saturnina.
At the turn of January and February 2026, the orchestra performed a series of ball performances, including in Kyjov.
In January 2024, Melody Gentlemen performed at the III. representative ball of the Czechoslovak Legion Association in Valašské Meziříčí.
In October 2019, Melody Gentlemen christened their album Swing Cocktail at the Stables of Lednice Castle.
