Maxim Rysanov (born 1978 in Kramatorsk, Ukraine) is a Ukrainian-British violist and conductor who trained at the Central Special Music School in Moscow and the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London. He won the Gramophone Young Artist of the Year award in 2008 and received a Grammy nomination in 2014 for his recording of Dobrinka Tabakova's music. A regular guest at the Edinburgh, Salzburg and Verbier festivals, he performs with leading orchestras worldwide and serves as Principal Guest Conductor of I Musici de Montréal.
Rysanov was appointed the first associate artist of Yehudi Menuhin School, where he will lead master classes and conduct the student orchestra.
The Strad magazine published a review of Rysanov's new recording of Schumann's chamber music (ONYX ONYX4245) with clarinetist Julian Bliss and pianist Dasol Kim.
Rysanov opened the 2024/25 season with a recital at Wigmore Hall in London as part of the BBC lunchtime series.
During the 2024/25 season, Rysanov made his conducting debut with Budapest Strings, Vojvodina Symphony Orchestra, and MAV Orchestra Hungary.
The recording of Dobrina Tabakova's music (ECM, 2013), in which Rysanov performed as both soloist and conductor, reached 2nd place in the British classical chart and received a Grammy nomination.
