Liběna Rochová

About

Liběna Rochová (born 21 September 1951 in Brno) is a Czech fashion designer and professor whose work since the 1980s sits at the boundary between clothing design and fine art. She trained at a textile secondary school in Brno, launched her career at the Husa na provázku theatre and ÚLUV, and broke onto the international scene at the 1991 Düsseldorf fashion fair. From 2008 to 2023 she headed the Fashion and Footwear Design Studio at UMPRUM in Prague; in 2015 she won the Czech Grand Design Grand Designer of the Year prize and in 2022 was inducted into its Hall of Fame. Her pieces are held by the Musée des Tissus in Lyon and the decorative arts museums in Prague and Brno.

    On November 21, 2025, a major retrospective exhibition Liběna Rochová: Touches was opened at the Moravian Gallery in Brno, which will run until August 2027 and features over 130 models on an area of 850 m².

    The Touches exhibition made public for the first time sketches, diaries, and a private archive that Rochová donated to the Moravian Gallery.

    In September 2023, Rochová exhibited at the Czech Centre in Paris as part of Paris Design Week, with the exhibition installation designed by her daughter, architect Magdalena Rochová.

    In 2023, Rochová ended her fifteen-year leadership of the Atelier of Fashion and Footwear Design at UMPRUM in Prague; the atelier was taken over by Simona Rybáková.

    In March 2022, Liběna Rochová was inducted into the Czech Grand Design Hall of Fame and simultaneously won the Fashion Designer of the Year award for the second time for the Inside 23 collection.
