Kristýna Barta (full name Kristýna Urbánková Bárta) is a Prague-based jazz pianist, composer and bandleader who studied jazz piano at the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague. She began as an oboist, trained in classical music at the Prague Conservatory, and has since become one of the most prominent voices on the Czech jazz scene. She has performed at the Montreux Jazz Festival, Jazzahead! and Bimhuis, and won the OSA jazz composers' competition in 2016. Her latest album Red Landscape (2026), recorded with an international quintet featuring Slovenian saxophonist Jure Pukl and vocalist Petra Brabencová, reflects on borders, memory and personal identity.
The album Red Landscape was released on May 8, 2026 - symbolically on the day of the state holiday - and features seven original compositions and two arrangements of folk songs (Czech and Ukrainian).
In July 2026, Barta launched the Record Release Tour with concerts in Prague (Jazz Dock), Uherské Hradiště, Poděbrady, and Broumov.
The Jazz Goes to Town festival in Hradec Králové (October 6-10, 2026) included Kristýnu Bartu Quintet with the album Red Landscape in the program of its 32nd edition.
Czech Radio Jazz published an interview with Barta in April 2026 about the album Red Landscape, its concept, and the international lineup of the band.
The album Red Landscape contains, among other things, a new interpretation of Modlitby pro Martu, an arrangement of the Ukrainian folk song Nese Hal'a vodu, and the composition Israel 1948.
