Kapralova Quartet is a Czech all-female string quartet founded in Prague in 1995 under the name Venus Quartet Prague. In 2000, with the agreement of Vítězslava Kaprálová's heirs and the Canadian Kapralova Society, the ensemble adopted the name of the Czech composer (1915-1940). One of very few quartets worldwide to have mastered the complete string quartet output of Alfred Schnittke, the group performs across Europe, Japan, Canada and beyond, and has collaborated with the Czech Philharmonic and other leading orchestras.
The quartet released an album with works by Mendelssohn, Verdi, and Suk on the Arco Diva label.
At the Prague Autumn festival, the quartet performed with the Czech Philharmonic under the baton of Georg Pehlivanian in Schulhoff's Concerto for String Quartet and Wind Instruments.
The quartet completed its second Canadian tour (the first was in 2004), and the ensemble members conducted master classes in Madison (Alberta) and were guests at the prestigious Banff Center.
Japanese television NHK recorded the quartet's performance at the festival in Nagoya as part of the Japanese tour.
The performance of Alfred Schnittke's complete quartet works at two concerts of Prague Spring 2002 received high critical acclaim and earned the ensemble a nomination for Ensemble of the Year.
