Julian Lage (born 1987 in Santa Rosa, California) is an American jazz guitarist and composer who was already drawing attention as an eight-year-old, the subject of the Oscar-nominated short documentary Jules at Eight, and who performed at the Grammy Awards at age twelve. A Berklee College of Music graduate now recording for Blue Note Records, he blends jazz, Americana and improvised music with striking technical command. He has collaborated with musicians such as Nels Cline, Bill Frisell, Chris Eldridge and Gary Burton, and has picked up multiple Grammy nominations across his career.
Lage expanded the fall 2026 tour with a quartet (John Medeski, Jorge Roeder, Kenny Wollesen) and announced the first dates for 2027 including Hamburg.
His fifth album for Blue Note Records, Scenes from Above, was released, recorded with a new quartet alongside John Medeski.
Before the album release, he released the single 'Talking Drum' with John Medeski, Jorge Roeder and Kenny Wollesen.
Lage announced the album Scenes from Above and for the first time presented the new quartet lineup with keyboardist John Medeski.
The album Speak to Me earned him a Grammy nomination in the Best Contemporary Instrumental Album category.
