John Rhys-Davies (born 5 May 1944) is a Welsh actor whose career spans more than six decades. He is best known for playing the dwarf Gimli in Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings trilogy and Sallah in the Indiana Jones franchise - two of the biggest film series of the 20th century. A Royal Academy of Dramatic Art graduate, he has also appeared in the James Bond film The Living Daylights and the TV series Sliders, and is widely recognised for his commanding, operatic voice.
