Organum Olomucensis 2026 - Johannes Ebenbauer
The second edition of an organ music festival featuring performers from the Czech Republic and Austria on the famous Engler organ in Olomouc's Church of St. Maurice.
Johannes Ebenbauer (born 1963 in Strallegg, Styria) is an Austrian organist, conductor, improviser and composer. He spent twenty years at Vienna's St. Stephen's Cathedral - serving as cathedral Kapellmeister from 1991 - and since 2013 has been Professor of Organ and Improvisation at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna (mdw), where he has headed the Institute for Organ, Organ Research and Church Music since 2020. As curator and artistic director of the Quintessenz festival, he oversees the 1642 Wöckherl Organ in Vienna's Franciscan Church, the oldest surviving organ in the city. Since the 2022/23 season he has been part of the Kapellmeister team at the Wiener Hofmusikkapelle.
The organ institute mdw under Ebenbauer's direction published the sixth volume of the Wiener Beiträge zu Orgel und Kirchenmusik in January 2026.
In summer 2025, Ebenbauer again led the Quintessenz festival on the Wöckherl organ at the Franciscan Church in Vienna - the 2025 edition included a total of seven concerts from August to October.
Ebenbauer performed at the Wien Modern 37 (2024) festival as one of the invited artists.
Since the 2022/23 season, Ebenbauer has been a member of the conducting team of the Wiener Hofmusikkapelle.
Since October 2020, Ebenbauer has directed the Institute for Organ, Organ Research and Church Music at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna.
