The Johann Strauss Orchestra is the private ensemble of Dutch violinist and conductor André Rieu, based in Maastricht. Founded in 1987 and launched with just twelve musicians on 1 January 1988, the orchestra has grown to over 70 members and serves as the backbone of Rieu's global touring operation. Its repertoire spans Viennese waltzes, opera arias, film scores and pop classics, performed in arenas and open-air squares worldwide. Billboard named Rieu the world's most successful male touring artist in 2009.
