André Rieu (born 1 October 1949 in Maastricht) is a Dutch violinist, conductor, and founder of the Johann Strauss Orchestra, with which he has toured the world since 1987. His arena-scale shows - blending waltzes, operatic arias, film scores, and pop hits - have brought classical music to mass audiences, with over 40 million albums sold. He regularly performs at Maastricht's Vrijthof square, where his summer concerts draw visitors from dozens of countries.
