Jan Patočka (1907–1977) was a Czech philosopher, a student of Edmund Husserl and Martin Heidegger, and one of the most significant phenomenologists in Central Europe. His work focused on the philosophy of history, the care of the soul, and human existence. He was a co-founder of Charter 77 and died shortly after interrogation by the secret police.
