Jan Jirásek (born 1955 in Rychnov nad Kněžnou) is a Czech composer whose output spans orchestral and choral music, opera, and film scores. He studied composition under Zdeněk Zouhar at the Janáček Academy in Brno and later worked as a music editor and producer at Czech Radio. His film scores for An Ambiguous Report About the End of the World and Wild Flowers each earned him a Czech Lion Award, and his concert works have been performed at the Prague Spring Festival, Carnegie Hall, and the Munich Biennale.
The world premiere of Jan Jirásk's opera Theatre of Light took place on June 14, 2026 at the Smetana House in Litomyšl, performed by the Musica Florea ensemble.
The opera Komenský was presented in February 2025 at the Festival of Musical Theatre Opera at the Prague State Opera, where the South Bohemian Theatre performed it on February 10.
The South Bohemian Theatre presented on December 6, 2023 the world premiere of Jirásk's opera Komenský, composed specifically to commission for this ensemble.
