Jan Adamus is a Czech oboist and conductor who won first prize at the Prague Spring International Competition in 1977, launching a career that took him to stages in Salzburg, Munich, Berlin and beyond. He was the first oboist in the Czech lands to master circular breathing, allowing him to sustain long phrases without a break. He has collaborated with artists such as Josef Suk and Jiří Bělohlávek, and recorded a wide range of Baroque and Classical oboe concertos.
