Hans Jakob Christoffel von Grimmelshausen (c. 1621–1676) was a German Baroque writer. His novel Der abenteuerliche Simplicissimus Teutsch (1668) is regarded as the most important prose work of the German Baroque era. It follows the picaresque adventures of a naive young man, Simplicius, against the backdrop of the Thirty Years' War.
