Hayao Miyazaki (born January 5, 1941, in Tokyo) is a Japanese animator, screenwriter, and film director who co-founded Studio Ghibli with Isao Takahata in 1985. Over more than four decades he directed films including My Neighbor Totoro, Princess Mononoke, and Spirited Away - the only hand-drawn animated feature ever to win the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature. In 2024 he won a second Oscar for The Boy and the Heron, becoming the oldest director to do so at age 83.
