Giovanni Boccaccio was a 14th-century Italian author and poet, one of the key figures of early Renaissance literature. He is best known for the Decameron, a collection of one hundred novellas that profoundly influenced European storytelling. He was also a scholar and a close friend of Francesco Petrarch.
