Balkan Night: Fanfare Ciocărlia + Džambo Aguševi Orchestra + Malalata
Balkan music at Špilberk Castle courtyard: Romanian brass band Fanfare Ciocărlia, Macedonian Džambo Aguševi Orchestra, and Slovak DJs Malalata.
Fanfare Ciocărlia is a twelve-piece Romani brass band from the village of Zece Prăjini in northeastern Romania, where the Ottoman tradition of brass music survived long after it had died out elsewhere in the country. Discovered in 1996 by German music enthusiast Henry Ernst, the band has since played over two thousand concerts in more than 70 countries, becoming one of the most widely toured world music acts on the planet. Their playing - often exceeding 200 beats per minute, performed entirely from memory - is widely credited with sparking the global Balkan brass revival of the late 1990s.
The joint album of the band with Canadian guitarist Adrian Ras 'The Devil Rides Again' (released May 2, 2025) reached first place in World Music Charts Europe in June 2025.
Fanfare Ciocărlia released the album 'The Devil Rides Again' with Adrian Ras - an eleven-track album mixing jazz, rockabilly and Balkan brass.
The band launched the anniversary tour '30 Years Brass On Fire!' with more than 20 stops across Europe.
In September 2024, the single 'Me Sem Rom' with vocalist Iulianem Canafem was released as a limited 7" vinyl on Asphalt Tango Records.
The version of the song 'Moliendo Café' by Fanfare Ciocărlia became the theme music for the DC Studios animated series 'Creature Commandos' (2024).
