The Academic Kyiv Modern-Ballet Theatre was founded in Kyiv in 2006 by choreographer Radu Poklitaru and patron Volodymyr Filippov. It operates as an author's theatre - the entire repertoire consists solely of Poklitaru's own productions, blending contemporary movement language with bold rereadings of world-famous plots. Poklitaru holds the Taras Shevchenko National Prize and the title of Honoured Artist of Ukraine. The company tours internationally and has continued staging Kyiv premieres throughout the war.
On October 16 and 17, 2025, the ballet Traviata to the music of Giuseppe Verdi in the choreography of Radu Poklitaru premiered in Kyiv - the company's first major premiere of the autumn season 2025.
On September 23, 2025, an official presentation of the ballet Traviata took place in Kyiv, where Poklitaru presented the artistic concept of the production and stated that he allowed himself to update the libretto, while the main drama remained untouched.
In June 2025, the world premiere of the ballet On the Beautiful Blue Danube to the music of Johann Strauss in the production of Radu Poklitaru took place on the stage of MCKM.
In October 2024, the company presented the ballet Viy based on Gogol's story in Kyiv - a mystical two-act ballet to the music of Oleksandr Rodin.
In April 2024, Radu Poklitaru presented the one-act ballet Friends to the music of Latvian composer Peteris Vasks at the festival in Cesis.
