Django Reinhardt (1910-1953) was a Romani-Belgian guitarist, the first major jazz figure to emerge from Europe and the primary architect of the style known as gypsy swing or jazz manouche. In 1934 he co-founded the Quintette du Hot Club de France with violinist Stéphane Grappelli - the first significant jazz ensemble built entirely around string instruments. A caravan fire in 1928 left two fingers of his left hand paralysed, yet he developed an entirely original technique that went on to shape guitarists across generations.
In June 2025, the 45th Django Reinhardt festival took place in the park of Fontainebleau Castle, a four-day showcase of manouche jazz and world jazz.
The Arkadia Records publishing house released the remastered album Django Plays Django (Remastered 2024) in April 2025.
On YouTube Music in 2025, the compilation album The Legend was released along with a series of remastered singles from 2024-2025.
The Sam Records publishing house released in 2024 a limited vinyl reissue of the album The Great Artistry of Django Reinhardt as part of the Artisan Series.
