dIRE sTRATS is a German Dire Straits tribute band founded in 2004, based in northern Germany. The six-piece group won a nationwide tribute contest in Koblenz in 2011, beating 99 competing acts, and has since built a reputation as Europe's most-booked Dire Straits tribute. Frontman Wolfgang Uhlich plays fingerstyle - no pick - mirroring Mark Knopfler's technique, and the band performs entirely without backing tracks.
