About

Čert a Káča (The Devil and Kate) is a comic opera by Antonín Dvořák, with a libretto by Adolf Wenig, first performed at the National Theatre in Prague in 1899. The story draws on a Czech folk tale about a stubborn girl who dances with the devil and gets dragged off to hell. The opera is known for its humor, folk atmosphere and tuneful score.
