About

Antonio Vivaldi (1678-1741) was a Venetian composer and virtuoso violinist whose innovations in concerto form shaped the entire late Baroque era. He is best known for The Four Seasons (published 1725), a cycle of four violin concertos that rank among the most performed and streamed works in classical music. For most of his career he worked at the Ospedale della Pietà in Venice, composing prolifically for its all-female ensemble. He died in poverty in Vienna in 1741; a broad revival of his music began only in the early 20th century.
