Alexander Scriabin (1872–1915) was a Russian composer and pianist whose work evolved from late Romanticism toward a distinctive mystical expressionism. He is known for his piano pieces and symphonic poems, in which he intertwined music with philosophical and theosophical ideas. Among his most celebrated works are his Piano Sonatas, Prometheus, and the Poème de l'extase.
