Nessa Barrett: The Tough Love Tour

A handling fee of 30 CZK applies.

Nessa Barrett has long been drawn to unrequited love. She moved to Los Angeles at 17 and spent her formative years there, cycling through the intense, often painful romances that come with love stories built on illusions. Now 23, she channels that into her new album, Tough Love, which explores the bursts of romance that thrive in a city like Los Angeles. "Tough Love is a sonic dark romantic experience," Barrett explains. "Each song represents a different form of tough love."

Sonically, the album builds on the brooding, trip-hop foundations she developed on her Aftercare tour and her EP Jesus Loves a Primadonna, trading the cinematic noir atmosphere of her earlier work for a more guitar-driven sound. Her influences range from Massive Attack and Portishead to Alice in Chains and Fleetwood Mac, filtered through what she calls her "own dark twists." As she's put it: "My entire life, I've been in this nonstop cycle: I fall in love, create a fantasy in my head, get obsessed, it's passionate - and then reality kicks in, and I go through the heartbreak again. Obviously, I don't learn my lesson, because I write another album about the same things. But that's just life."
