Karlova Koruna Palace

Chlumec nad Cidlinou

About the venue

The Baroque château Karlova Koruna was built in 1721-23 by architects Jan Blažej Santini-Aichel and František Maxmilián Kaňka for Count František Ferdinand Kinský. It was named in honour of Emperor Charles VI, who visited in 1723 - and the floor plan genuinely resembles a royal crown. Guided tours take visitors through interiors with an exhibition on the Kinský family and their horse-breeding legacy; the restored riding hall is dedicated to the famous Kinský horses. An English-style landscape park with free-roaming peacocks surrounds the château.
