Brandýs nad Labem-Stará Boleslav

About the venue

A Renaissance château on a rocky terrace above the left bank of the Elbe, built on the foundations of a 14th-century medieval castle. From 1547 it belonged to the Bohemian royal chamber, and Italian court architects gave it its current form along with the elaborate sgraffito decoration on the facades. Rudolf II made it his favourite residence outside Prague, receiving guests such as the astronomer Tycho Brahe. Now a national cultural monument administered by the city, it offers tours of the imperial apartments, the Tuscan Habsburgs' library, an alchemist's workshop and the castle picture gallery. The chapel hosts concerts and wedding ceremonies.
