About the venue

Lesní divadlo Nýrsko is an open-air theatre completed in 1935 on the site of a former quarry, on the southern edge of town beside the Úhlava river. The largely wooden structure had sliding side walls, underground passages and trapdoors beneath the stage, with a natural rock face as a backdrop. The auditorium seats 400. After going dark in the 1970s, the theatre was revived in 2009 and now hosts visiting theatre companies, children's fairy-tale shows and a summer cinema.
