Prague

About the venue

Štvanice Island sits on the Vltava between Karlín and Holešovice and is one of Prague 7's most varied open spaces. Its name recalls the dog-baiting hunts held here from the late 17th century until 1816. The island's greatest fame came from the 1931 winter stadium, which hosted four Ice Hockey World Championships - the last in 1959 - before being demolished in 2011. Today it holds the I. ČLTK tennis complex with ATP/WTA courts, the Baden Baden lido, a whitewater slalom canal, a skatepark, and the island theatre stage Vila Štvanice. The new Štvanická footbridge, opened in 2023, now links the island to both riverbanks.
