About the venue
Grabštejn Castle stands on a steep rocky spur near Hrádek nad Nisou, close to the point where the Czech, German and Polish borders meet. The castle dates from the second half of the 13th century, but its present appearance was shaped by a Renaissance reconstruction in the 1560s commissioned by Jiří Mehl ze Střelic. The highlight of the complex is the chapel of St. Barbara, whose walls and ceiling are covered with 16th-century fresco paintings. The Gallas and Clam-Gallas families owned the castle from 1704; after restoration work began in 1989, it reopened to visitors in 1993 and has been a national cultural monument since 2008.
