Smetana Hall of the Municipal House

Prague

About the venue

Smetana Hall is the largest space in the Municipal House on náměstí Republiky and the home stage of the Prague Symphony Orchestra FOK. The Art Nouveau hall, seating 1,200, was built between 1905 and 1912 to designs by Antonín Balšánek and Osvald Polívka, and opened on 5 January 1912. Its name honours Bedřich Smetana, the father of modern Czech music. Alongside FOK concerts, the hall hosts Prague Spring, Organ Summer and Prague Autumn events, and features a 1912 organ by Jan Tuček of Kutná Hora with 72 stops and over 4,000 pipes.
