Regional Museum in Jílové u Prahy

Jílové u Prahy

About the venue

The Regional Museum in Jílové u Prahy occupies the historic Mince building on Masarykovo náměstí - a house that served as the royal mining office until the Hussite Wars and was briefly owned by the alchemist Edward Kelley. The museum was founded in 1891 when local native Leopold Čihák donated his collection to the town. Gold mining is the backbone of the permanent displays: the Jílové ore district ranked among the most important gold-bearing areas in Bohemia. The museum also manages three accessible mine adits spanning medieval, 18th-century and 20th-century workings, and received the Gloria musaealis award in 2002 for opening the St. Joseph adit to the public.
