Památník Karla Čapka

Stará Huť

About the venue

A museum set in Karel Čapek's former summer residence, which the writer received as a wedding gift for lifetime use in 1935. Works such as War with the Newts and The White Disease were written here. The memorial was founded in 1963 and reopened after reconstruction in 1997. The permanent exhibition covers Čapek, his wife Olga Scheinpflugová, and journalist Ferdinand Peroutka; the estate - known as Strž or Čapkárna - also hosts concerts, exhibitions, and theatre performances.
