Benešov u Prahy railway station sits on the Prague-České Budějovice main line and opened in 1871 as part of the Emperor Franz Joseph Railway. The station building was constructed in two stages: the southern wing dates from 1872, the northern section was added in the late 1890s. Between the two wings an Imperial Salon was fitted out, used by Franz Joseph I and German Emperor Wilhelm II. Since 1997 the building has been listed as a National Cultural Monument.
