The Story of Fans
An exhibition exploring the history of fans across different eras and cultures through a private collection assembled by Jana Nováková and Jiří Sauk.
The town museum occupies the grounds of a Přemyslid castle on a rocky spur above the left bank of the Sázava river. The complex includes an 11th-century Romanesque rotunda - the oldest listed monument in the Benešov district - and a 13th-century Gothic tower that doubles as a lookout and shelters a protected colony of greater horseshoe bats. The museum opened in 1959 and holds a permanent exhibition of Týnec stoneware, an archaeological collection, a Romanesque cellar and two gallery rooms with rotating exhibitions. Throughout the season the courtyard hosts theatre performances, concerts and recurring events such as the Týnecký střep festival and Advent Sundays at the castle.
