Mašovice
Mašovický lom is a flooded former granite quarry near the village of Mašovice, about 7 km west of Znojmo. Quarrying ended in 1999, after which the pit was flooded; in 2013 the site was declared a natural monument and included in the Natura 2000 network. The lake, up to 10 metres deep with clear water, is popular for swimming and diving. The area is home to rare species, most notably the protected Italian crested newt (Triturus carnifex).
