Kuklov Monastery

Brloh

About the venue

Ruins of a Pauline monastery with the church of St. Andrew in the hamlet of Kuklov, about 3 km from Brloh on the western edge of the Blanský les protected landscape area. The monastery was founded in 1495 by Petr IV. of Rožmberk, but was never completed and abandoned around 1530; Swedish troops destroyed it during the Thirty Years' War. The surviving shell of the late-Gothic church, with its five tall windows, serves as an open-air venue for theatre performances, concerts and civil weddings organised by the municipality of Brloh. František Vláčil filmed his historical drama Údolí včel here in 1967.
