Kačina Castle near Kutná Hora is one of the finest Empire-style buildings in Bohemia, built for Jan Rudolf Chotek between 1806 and 1824 to designs by Saxon architect Christian Franz Schuricht. It now houses the Museum of Czech Countryside, a branch of the National Museum of Agriculture, covering the history of the Chotek family, farming and rural life. The castle wing holds the Chotek Library with over 40,000 volumes and a historic theatre; the whole complex sits in a sweeping English landscape park laid out in 1789.
