Zlenice Castle

Senohraby

About the venue

The Zlenice castle ruin, popularly known as Hláska, sits on a rocky spur above the confluence of the Mnichovka stream and the Sázava river, south of Senohraby. The castle was founded around 1300 - the first written record dates to 1318 - and served as a noble seat throughout its existence. Its most prominent owner was Ondřej of Dubá, chief justice of the Bohemian Kingdom under Charles IV. The castle was destroyed during the Poděbrad wars of 1463-1465 and never rebuilt. A protected cultural monument, it is freely accessible year-round and hosts the annual medieval crafts festival Oživlý středověk each July.
