The Faculty of Arts of Charles University (FF UK) was founded in 1348 as one of the university's four original faculties, then known as the Faculty of Liberal Arts. Since 1929 it has occupied its building on náměstí Jana Palacha in the Old Town. Today more than 8,000 students study across over seventy humanities and social-science fields. Past figures associated with the faculty include Jan Hus, T. G. Masaryk, Karel Čapek and Jan Patočka.
