Divadlo Semafor (SeMaFor) was founded on 30 October 1959 by Jiří Suchý and Jiří Šlitr. The name is an acronym for "Sedm Malých Forem" (Seven Small Forms), reflecting the founders' ambition to span a wide range of artistic genres. The repertoire eventually focused on musical theatre and jazz concerts. The theatre launched the careers of many Czech artists, including Karel Gott, and is now housed in an underground hall on Dejvická street in Prague 6.
