Eleven-year-old Rea moves with her father to a newly settled planet following a family tragedy, where her father takes a job at a replication factory. There she meets Andy and together they discover an underground world whose existence people are unaware of. When they find a lonely young creature of a rare species, they decide to protect it from a greedy governor who wants to exploit the animal for his own profit. Their search for the truth leads them into dangerous caves, where they uncover that reckless waste disposal is threatening the entire hidden ecosystem.
